Smith and Warner return for Australia

Smith and Warner return for Australia

2019/20 CA men's contracts: Pat Cummins, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Alex Carey, Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja, Peter Handscomb, Marcus Harris, Travis Head, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, Glenn Maxwell, Shaun Marsh, Tim Paine, James Pattinson, Jhye Richardson, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Adam Zampa.

It is the first call-up for the former captain and his deputy since the expiry late last month of year-long bans for their part in the "sandpapergate" scandal in Cape Town that rocked cricket.

Now the duo, who have played in this season's Indian Premier League (IPL), will return to the global stage in the tournament in England and Wales, which starts on May 30.

"Both are world class players and it has been pleasing to see them produce some good form in the IPL", he said.

Questions also remain at the top of the order with Usman Khawaja, captain Aaron Finch and Warner all picked, although it's likely Khawaja could then drop down to No.3.

Australian coach Justin Langer Tuesday welcomed the top-order selection dilemma posed by the return of David Warner as offering "fantastic flexibility" to the team ahead of the World Cup.

With Warner's incredible form in the IPL, it seemed nearly impossible for him to miss out on selection.

As with the batsmen, Australia's selectors faced a bowling conundrum as they target a record sixth World Cup triumph.

Seamer Jason Behrendorff and all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, who were also named in the World Cup squad, are also expected to leave Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore respectively by the end of the month to attend the camp. They're both great players and they'll fit nicely back into the team, no doubt about that.

They will be followed by two warm-up matches in England, one of which is against the hosts, before their campaign starts against Afghanistan on June 1.

'Josh Hazlewood has also been named in the Australia A squad, ' Hohns added.

Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Jhye Richardson, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Jason Behrendorff are the five pacers in the line-up, while Nathan Lyon and Adam Zampa will take care of the spin department. Having not played at the highest level for some time, we feel this will provide him with the best preparation to get some quality cricket under his belt.

Starc and Richardson have both been selected subject to fitness.

"Unfortunately, from the recent squad which toured India and the UAE, Peter Handscomb, Ashton Turner and Kane Richardson have made way for the above inclusions, but all three have been included in Australia A squad for the tour of England".
