Hoda Kotb adopts a second daughter at 54

"Joel and I were standing there when they hand you the baby, and it's the closest thing to a live birth I think you'll ever see".

The 54-year-old television personality surprised her Today co-hosts during Tuesday's episode by announcing she adopted another daughter, Hope Catherine, with boyfriend Joel Schiffman.

"We don't know when, but it is something that is important to me and to Joel", she revealed.

In regards to her absence, Hoda called in to speak with her co-anchors which at the time included Matt Lauer, Jenna Bush Hager, Carson Daly, Al Roker and BFF Kathie Lee Gifford.

"Man, I'm so happy she's here".

"It's a girl! And her name is Hope!"

When Haley first met her sister, Kotb explained: "We'd been telling her, 'Baby Hope's coming, ' and she literally walked up to her and looked at her and she goes, 'Hope!'"

Kotb also expressed her happiness and disbelief about her family's new addition.

"They said to me at the adoption agency, 'Don't worry, your child is out there waiting for you.' And I remember I would scribble in my journal, 'I know you're there.' I could feel her". She's trying to help by offering to feed the newborn raspberries for breakfast to which Kotb told her "not yet, babe".

At the time, fans and followers just assumed it was another Monday pick-me-up, but now, commenters have been going back and realizing Kotb was actually sending her own little coded message in a way!

"First of all, I can't imagine any of this is happening". Hope, because she hoped, prayed, and dreamed about having another child.

She wasn't the only excited one in the family.

"I was afraid to even say it out loud, because then it felt so real", Kotb said.
