Woman answers door, shot point-blank with crossbow

Police in Canada are hunting a suspected hitman who they say disguised himself as a delivery person to carry out a "premeditated, targeted and isolated attack" on a woman, gravely injuring her with a crossbow.

Police are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the suspect, who fled the scene in a dark coloured pick up truck.

The infrared camera footage showed a man wearing a white hoodie, long tracksuit trousers, black gloves and a white cap, holding a rectangular cardboard box which contained the large weapon. The front door is seen closing as the suspect runs away.

Those moments edited out almost killed the homeowner.

Kettles said it's not yet clear if the suspect drove off on his own or was accompanied by a driver.

He added that her life "will never be the same".

Investigators also released an image Monday of the vehicle they believe the suspect used to attend and then flee from the area. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she has remained for months.

They say the woman and the suspect had a short conversation before the man shot her with a crossbow he had hidden inside the box. "Comments made to the victim (by the suspect) indicate the victim was targeted and that the suspect may have carried out the attack at the request of another individual".

"His face does not appear to be covered", Kettles said. The arrow is used to hunt large game such as moose or deer and "inflict the maximum amount of damage possible", according to the press release.

"There's absolutely no question in our mind that the intent in this particular case was the victim was not to have survived this attack", Det.

Crossbows 500 millimetres or less in length are prohibited by law but there are no licensing restrictions on weapons such as the one purportedly used.

"We don't know at this point how many people may have been involved in orchestrating this ... that's an important aspect of the investigation that we are trying to establish now". "This is something we are attempting to establish". Kettles said the shoes and baseball hat worn by the suspect were unique - and the suspect did not hide his face, giving investigators a number of potential clues.

Peel Regional police Supt.

"It involved a lot of damage to her internal organs".
