De Bruyne: I only spoke to Mourinho twice

De Bruyne: I only spoke to Mourinho twice

Roy Hodgson named a strong Palace side that was kitted out to hold the ball up in the City half and get runners around him, but his plans largely went out of the window just 15 minutes into the match, when Raheem Sterling opened the scoring for the visitors.

De Bruyne wrote for The Players' Tribune: "I am a brutally honest person".

"Although they will want to go to war, Cardiff, they'll be fighting for their lives, I think Liverpool - given the back four and midfield they have - will deal with that, and then the three guys up front have got a goal or two".

The relationship eventually began to turn a little sour, as it often does with Mourinho, and although we have already joined the dots of the unhappy marriage, De Bruyne sheds more light on the circumstances that led to his eventual exit from the London club.

With a bit more good luck with injuries this season De Bruyne could have been joining him on that list. Zero goals. Ten recoveries.

Capped 68 times by the Red Devils, De Bruyne said he was taken aback by what was happening in the manager's office.

The peculiar thing is we have achieved all of this without what many would consider to be our very best player - the inimitable Kevin De Bruyne.

The pair have a combined 230 goals and assists between them in 354 City appearances.

Without doubt, Kevin De Bruyne has established himself as one of the finest players in the Premier League over the last couple of seasons. But over time, I got closer to Raheem, because our sons were born around the same time, so they would always play together. It was so odd. I said, 'I feel like the club doesn't really want me here. Klopp wanted me to come to Borussia Dortmund, and they played the kind of football that I enjoy.

That January, he was sold to Wolfsburg for £18 million.

City still have a game in hand over their title rivals but Sterling still expects the battle for the Premier League to go "down to the wire", with neither side relenting recently.

"Selhurst Park is always hard, not just for the stadium itself but for the quality of the players they have".

"It was the same type of battle, between two teams".

"They had really hurt me".

In fact, after reading reports about Sterling in the English press, De Bruyne thought Sterling would be "a bit of a d***head". "The injuries and the matches that I've missed have been extremely hard for me, mentally", he said. I was just out of favour for some reason'. "But, unfortunately, that cloud still followed me around for a long time". I thought you were going to be really distant and shy.
