All eyes on Tiger Woods as leaders prepare for Masters third round

Four-time Masters champion Tiger Woods is still in contention to win his first major in more than a decade despite a peculiar incident in which a security guard at Augusta slipped on the rain-soaked course and almost tripped him. Finau limps through a 17th hole bogey and in a Masters first, crawls up to the 18th green.

He then took the outright lead at nine-under when he eagled the eighth after hitting his approach inside two feet.

Scott was the only player to reach 8-under with a 2-iron into 5 feet for eagle on the 15th, only to miss a 3-foot par putt on the 16th.

British Open victor Molinari and Australian former world number one Day will be on the course at 2:45 pm ET ahead of two-time defending U.S. Open champion Koepka and 2013 Masters victor Scott.

He began the day tied for 11th and four shots back of the lead, and by the time he teed off at 1:47 p.m. ET, scores had not gone much lower.

"I thought it was a pretty neat look back in the day", Woods said on Tuesday. But he showed the rest of the season that he was back to his old self, contending at both the Open Championship and PGA Championship before winning the Tour Championship.

Woods was forced to lay up on the par-5 15th and gave himself a lengthy look at birdie. It feels like Finau is either going to shoot a 73 or a 66 on Sunday morning, and I would believe either result. "I've proven that I can do", he said earlier this week.

Xander Schauffele (T7, -8): A big dog who has gotten comfortable on the big stage, Schauffele has played well enough to be in contention but made just a few too many mistakes along the way to think he's going to emerge from this pack of elite players and former major champions.

Molinari, who first met Woods. Fast forward 13 years and Molinari is a three-time PGA Tour victor, a major champion, and will be playing with Woods in the final pairing on Sunday.

Woods (-11) was tied for the lead late Saturday.

Finau started the day four off the pace and made that deficit up with the birdies on the first three holes and another at the sixth.

"The only two bad putts I hit today were all on the same hole, over on 8", Woods said.

The 43-year-old will be desperate to claim his fifth Masters title after last taking the green jacket home back in 2005. The nightmarish morning commute is caused by patrons arriving early for the moved-up tee times and helps everyone forget an astoundingly boring final round where Molinari grinds out a 71 in the high winds and wins.

The green-jacketed lords of Augusta National Golf Club will declare that every Masters tunamint is like Waterford crystal, a creation worthy of being placed on the top shelf in the world's living room because, well, they ooze sanctimony and arrogance, and they're often not completely wrong. Webb Simpson and Patrick Cantlay both shot an 8-under 64, just one shot away from tying the Masters record.
