Love Island star Michael Thalassitis found dead aged 26

Mike Thalassitis has been found dead aged 26.

"Muggy Mike" as he was known on the reality TV show was found dead in the woods near his home in Essex.

The 26-year-old rose to fame when he appeared on the ITV show Love Island in 2017.

Tributes have been flooding in from Mike's celebrity friends following the news of his death.

He had previously been in a relationship with country singer Megan McKenna, who was a star in The Only Way Is Essex.

"Mike... you were a total gentleman..." I can't put into words how much this hurts and doesn't feel real. My heart and soul and love goes out to his friends & family.

"My thoughts are with Mike's family", Jack Fincham wrote.

"I genuinely can't believe what I'm seeing here", he wrote alongside a picture of the two.

Montana Brown, who also appeared on Love Island in 2017, told the BBC: "Mike was so misunderstood - on television he was known as playing the ladies and everyone had this perception that he was this classic lad that didn't have feelings".

Football club Stevenage, where he started his career, said in a Tweet that they were shocked to hear the tragic news, sending condolences to his family and friends.

Dom revealed: "You get a psychological evaluation before and after you go on the show but hands down once you are done on the show you don't get any support unless you're number one".

He also appeared in E4 reality dating series Celebs Go Dating previous year. My heart is with your family. "You'll be missed so much you have no idea".

Alex Bowen and Rachel Fenton, who both also appeared on Love Island, tweeted their respects.

"Our sincerest condolences go to his family & friends".

"Everyone connected with Ebbsfleet United is shocked and saddened to learn of the death of our former striker Michael Thalassitis", the statement reads.

Fenton tweeted: "I'm lost for words".
