Isco is back in the midfield with Asensio and Bale up front with Karim Benzema.

From out of the wilderness, Isco and Marcelo featured from the off. Isco was making his first league start since Julen Lopetegui's final match at the helm - the 5-1 defeat at Barcelona in October - while Marcelo was enjoying just his fourth league start of 2019.

Gareth Bale was also named in the starting line-up at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday as Madrid launched their new era under Zidane at home to Celta Vigo in La Liga.

Madrid have endured a tough season, struggling to adapt to life without Cristiano Ronaldo as the squad that won three consecutive Champions Leagues has shown signs of ageing.

Marcelo comes in ahead of Sergio Reguilon, who did well under Solari.

But with nothing left to play for this season and morale at an all time low, Zidane has brought all three of them back into the side for his first game in charge. As quoted by the Daily Mail, Solskjaer said: "I can't really comment on Gareth Bale or specific players".

At the other end, Celta Vigo find themselves battling to avoid the drop as they sit in 18th spot, one point adrift of safety.

It remains to be seen whether Zidane will make a winning start to his second spell in charge.

The performances of Bale, Isco and Marcelo in particular have left him with plenty to ponder, and Zidane can only hope that vigour will continue after the global break.
