UEFA open investigation into Neymar after abusive Insta comments

Marcus Rashford converted the resulting penalty after referee Damir Skomina consulted VAR to award the spot-kick, which sent the visitors through to the quarter-finals on away goals following an impressive 3-1 win.

The Brazilian watched from the stands at the Parc des Princes on 6 March as a stoppage time penalty was awarded to Manchester United after Presnel Kimpembe was adjudged by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) to have handled the ball in the penalty area.

In the aftermath of the Champions League tie, a visibly shocked Neymar took to Instagram to say "This is a disgrace, they put four people who know nothing about football in charge of looking at the replay for VAR".

UEFA says it "appointed an ethics and disciplinary Inspector to conduct an investigation" of the social media comments. "Go f**k yourselves!" Neymar wrote in Portuguese on the social media website.

Neymar is set to be hammered with a ban by UEFA after his social media rant when Paris Saint-Germain lost to Manchester United.

Neymar, who didn't feature in the game due to injury, may now face a sanction for next season from the European governing body.

Through an official statement, UEFA announced that the Brazilian striker was being investigated.

Neymar was watching injured as United overturned a 2-0 first-leg deficit.
