Woman loses 5 children in Lagos school building collapse

In 2016, more than 100 people were killed when a church came down in southeastern Nigeria.

Residents of the area said that around 100 children attended the school, which was on the third floor of the building.

"We are still trying to find out how many are trapped inside", said police officer Seun Ariwyo, who said there were probably scores. He expressed sadness over the incident, stressing that the marked building for demolition would be pulled down.

Emergency services at the scene after a school building collapsed in Lagos, Nigeria, on Wednesday.

"We are getting additional cranes to be able to go deeper than where we are now to rescue more lives", said Lagos state governor Akinwunmi Ambode in a statement.

The resident said the Lagos State Government had earmarked the building for demolition since 2018.

"Top civil Rights group HURIWA is of the position that Lagos state government has failed in its statutory and primary duty of care to the children of Nigeria".

"It touches one to lose precious lives in any kind of mishap, particularly those so young and tender", Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari said.

"I learnt about 25 persons had been rescued".

LASEMA General manager, Tiamiyu Adesina made this known at the scene of the collapse.

TVCNEWS.TV has gotten reports from its correspondent, Theophilus Elamah who tells us that 12 persons have been confirmed dead while 42 injured are now receiving treatment.
