Here’s how much 5G service will cost from Verizon

If you have an older Verizon plan and refuse to switch, you won't have access to 5G.

Last month, Verizon gave us a fairly vague timeline for its 5G plans in 2019, saying that mobile 5G would launch in 30 cities across the U.S. throughout the year but not really getting specific about the "where" or "when". Like 10, which is the number of dollars required to add unlimited 5G data on top of existing Go, Beyond, and Above Unlimited plans.

"Minneapolis will see a similar concentration, focused on the Downtown West, Downtown East, and Elliot Park areas of the city, with a focus on landmarks like the Minneapolis Convention Center as well as the Target Center and U.S. Bank Stadium sports venues, along with the Verizon store in the Mall of America."
But Samsung has yet to announce a release date for it.

To start the Moto Z3 with a 5G Moto Mod attached is the only device that can connect to Verizon's 5G network.

Users in Chicago and Minneapolis will be able to avail the 5G wireless network from April 11 by using a Motorola Z3 mobile and a 5G "Moto Mod", a physical magnet-like attachment for the phone, the telecommunications company said.

It's worth keeping in mind that you'll need to be on one of Verizon's Unlimited plans to even pre-order the 5G Moto Mod when those open up tomorrow, as explained in an FAQ about the add-on. Moto has the first 5G upgradeable smartphone. In a statement, Verizon CTO Kyle Malady said that the company is only starting in Chicago and Minneapolis, with only parts of the cities getting 5G coverage initially. Or you can combine one Go Unlimited service line with 5G support and pay just $85. If you don't pre-order, the retail price is $349 when it arrives April 11.

What happens if you aren't in a 5G area?

The provider also revealed pricing details for the network. The first 5G-enabled smartphone to accompany the service is the Motorola moto z3 with the 5G moto mod, which will be available for pre-order on March 14. More information on the Motorola phone and 5G device is available at this Verizon FAQ.

If you're not a Verizon customer or you don't have a Moto Z3, you can still get in on the action.
