'Man, I'm just born to be in it, and want to do everything I humanly can for this country at this moment'.

Beto O'Rourke appeared poised to announce his long-anticipated run for the presidency, telling a national magazine that "I'm just born to be in it".

"You can probably tell that I want to run", O'Rourke told Vanity Fair.

"I'm really proud of what El Paso did and what El Paso represents", O'Rourke reportedly texted the station.

O'Rourke became a national star during his 2018 Senate bid a year ago, despite the fact that he was defeated by incumbent Ted Cruz.

O'Rourke is planning a series of stops in Iowa beginning Thursday, The Associated Press reported.

He also recalled a discussion with former President Barack Obama, who O'Rourke said had asked him if he saw a path to victory and if there was something he could provide the country "uniquely".

Despite O'Rourke's narrow loss, his high-profile candidacy helped Democrats retake House seats and control of the chamber.

The article highlights the struggle O'Rourke had in making a decision based on his feelings and the hesitations of his family. "I do. I think I'd be good at it".
