Google Allo shutting down today. Save your chat history

Google Allo shutting down today. Save your chat history

"You'll now be able to delete your conversation history of 1:1 direct messages in Hangouts Chat". At the time, Google said that "given Messages' continued momentum, we've made a decision to stop supporting Allo to focus on Message".

You can still download your chats from Allo, but you'll have to be quick.

Reports of Google killing Allo go as far back as April of a year ago.

Google is published a nifty little tutorial to help users save their Allo chat history before the chat service is officially shuttered.

For better or worse, that shutdown date happens to be today: March 12.

Allo used phone numbers as a login, similar to WhatsApp.

Go to then Menu, then Settings.

Your messages will be in a CSV file. In Settings, you will find the Chat option, tap on that and you will see two options - Export messages from chats and Export stored media from chats.

It's time to say goodbye to Allo!

If you'd like to backup your messages and files for later use instead of (or in addition to) downloading them, you can do so pretty easily.

Google never really made the case for why people should move to Allo, and consumers the world over didn't sit around waiting for it.

Google Allo isn't the only Google service that it is being discontinued this month.

Google has ported many of Allo's popular features into the Messages app. Duo, the video chat app that launched alongside Allo, has been installed on more than a billion Android devices - that's ten times more than Allo. Exporting media will save photos, videos and other files.
