Tottenham 'heroes' have earned a few days off, says Pochettino

Despite having the better of things in the first-half, Borussia Dortmund couldn't live with the onslaught Tottenham provided in the second period, as the German side were victims of a high-pressing approach.

Substitute Fernando Llorente headed Spurs into dreamland three minutes later, and they will take their three-goal lead back to Germany for the second leg on March 5, a result that already looks beyond doubt unless Spurs stage a dramatic collapse.

Mauricio Pochettino said Tottenham are being underestimated after they beat Borussia Dortmund 3-0 in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.

'Next time Son scores I will go to the dressing room, have a shower and wait for the game to finish, ' Pochettino joked afterwards.

"Harry or Dele are very important for us but we have players who can come in and do well".

Playing some pretty extravagant football at times, Mauricio Pochettino's side were no match for the tempo which Dortmund set and were playing catch-up for nearly the entire first period.

Son was not alone in earning Pochettino's praise, however, as the Spurs boss was ecstatic at the team's performance following a tough Premier League fixture against Leicester City on Sunday. "He translates good energy and his performance in every game is improving".

"The first half was very hard. We are happy now, but there is still a lot of work to do", said Pochettino. 'My players are heroes.

Pochettino devised a clever game-plan that eventually frustrated Dortmund and secured Tottenham's first ever Champions League knockout-round win at home. But Tottenham's manager played down the success of his tactics.

The defender was instrumental in the opener for Spurs, floating in a brilliant cross for Son Heung-min, who finished with a lovely first touch back across the goalkeeper.

"I haven't got any particular worries", he said.

"Jan is technically unbelievable and can play in any position". It was an fantastic result and the players deserve massive praise but we need to think that it's going to be tough to play over there.
