Top 2019 prospect Anthony Edwards chooses Bulldogs — Georgia Basketball

Edwards ultimately chose to pick Georgia over Florida State and Kentucky during his commitment process and is planning to bring a National Championship to Athens, turning a new leaf for an improving program that's had a shaky start to Crean's coaching tenure at Georgia.

Despite major pushes from Florida State, Kansas and Kentucky (among others), it's been widely reported in recent weeks that Georgia was the team to beat.

"I went to a game and I felt the fans in the gym, everybody showing love, and I felt like I was home", he added.

"Two of my favorite players, Dwyane Wade and Victor Oladipo, were coached by Tom Crean", Edwards told 247Sports' Evan Daniels after announcing his choice.

Edwards, who now attends Holy Spirit Prep in Atlanta, had received a number of offers but cut his list to five schools in November, when he reclassified from 2020 to 2019.

Originally a member of the 2020 recruiting class, Anthony Edwards recently made a decision to join the 2019 grouping instead.

It's a statement for head coach Tom Crean in his first season with the Bulldogs.

Overall, Edwards' addition is Crean's third recruit in the class.

Edwards, excited about the program's future, has high expectations.

Edwards' commitment led to Georgia's recruiting class jumping from No. 39 to No. 12.

Edwards reclassified in November from the class of 2020 ahead of the season at Atlanta's Holy Spirit Academy, where he is averaging 26.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals a game and also shooting 38 percent from 3-point range. He joins consensus four-star prospects Jaykwon Walton, who is a former Miss State commit, and Toumani Camara.
