3 takeaways as OKC Thunder win behind Russell Westbrook’s historic triple-double

Russell Westbrook set a new National Basketball Association record with his 10th consecutive triple-double in a 120-111 win over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Eight-time NBA All-Star Westbrook eclipsed Wilt Chamberlain's long-standing record of nine consecutive triple-doubles in another inspired display on Monday.

After the game, Westbrook downplayed his latest feat.

George finished the game with 12 rebounds and 10 assists while racking up those 47 points on 15-of-26 shooting, including an 8-of-13 mark from the three-point line.

"I just go play the game the right way", Westbrook said. "To me that's a blessing in itself and something I never even dreamed about as a kid". Each moment for me is a blessing. Each time I get to walk into this locker room and see my name up there, it's a blessing for me. That's an unbelievable moment in itself.

Westbrook and Paul George also made history by becoming the first team-mates in National Basketball Association history to achieve a 20-point triple-double in the same game.

Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jerami Grant (9) and guard Terrance Ferguson (23) and guard Russell Westbrook (0) celebrate after a play during the fourth quarter against the Houston Rockets at Toyota Center.

"I thought he had it already", George joked after the win. Three minutes later with less than a minute remaining, George found Russ for a deep trey to complete his first triple-double in OKC colors.

Russell Westbrook collected the pass then started to make his move as Paul George hurtled into view. "I didn't know it was that close".

"There is no other person who has led in triple doubles year after year. But [Westbrook] told the situation, so it was cool to be on the other end of the triple-double".
