Lampard cools talk over Chelsea job

Chelsea are set to stick with manager Maurizio Sarri despite alarmingly inconsistent results and the thrashing by Manchester City.

The Blues suffered their biggest ever defeat in the history of the Premier League after they were steamrolled by a rampant Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday.

"My job is here", Lampard told a Derby press conference on Monday, quoted by the Evening Standard.

"With my Chelsea hat on, you have a feeling for it and it's not nice", the former England worldwide told the media on Monday. The Italian watched the bulk of the match while the players beaten by City...

Chelsea's players are said to attribute their fragility to a lack of leaders in the squad and believe some senior members of the team are keen to blame others for their own mistakes.

As a former Chelsea legend who moved into management last summer, Lampard will inevitably be linked with the post whenever it becomes available, but he insists he is focused on the job in hand at Pride Park. With all top teams the important thing is you come back strong, no matter what type of defeat.

Unsurprisingly, bookmakers have Lampard listed as an option to take over should Sarri depart Stamford Bridge, yet Chelsea's all-time leading scorer hopes the current boss can turn around the team's fortunes.

Derby sit seventh in the table ahead of Wednesday's trip to bottom club Ipswich, while the Rams face Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday.
