Danai Gurira to leave The Walking Dead after season 10

Danai Gurira arrives at the premiere of AMC's "The Walking Dead" 4th season at Universal CityWalk on October 3, 2013 in Universal City, California.

Gurira, who made a huge impression previous year playing Okoye in Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, will be another major loss for the show, which remains one of the most-watched on cable despite the departures of Lincoln and other cast members.

The Walking Dead is set to return for the second half of season nine on Sunday, which will herald the arrival of the Whisperers.

Her exit would be a massive blow for the show, following the recent departure of Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes in season nine - who will reappear in a planned trilogy of movies.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, she will then move on to work on the previously announced series of "Walking Dead" movies alongside Lincoln.

"She has been very vocal about saying that she loves the show". It was probably only a matter of time before she left to focus on her own projects, which include writing and producing an adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's hit novel Americanah into a limited series that will reunite her with Eclipsed star Lupita Nyong'o. "But we certainly would want her on the show as long as she wants to be on it", AMC Programming President David Madden told THR back in November.

The Walking Dead continues on AMC Sundays and returns Mondays on Fox UK. "We really want her to stay".

Her exit comes after what's been reported as "prolonged negotiations" with AMC, the company who produces the show, which is broadcast in Ireland on RTÉ 2.

I don't know how surprising this news is, really.
