Virginia lieutenant governor on sexual assault allegations: 'The interactions were consensual'

She turned and asked, 'Why did you do it?' Mr. Fairfax answered: "I knew that because of what happened to you a year ago, you'd be too afraid to say anything".

"I deny this latest unsubstantiated allegation", the embattled Democrat said. He called the allegation "demonstrably false". He said Saturday he heard from Tyson after their encounter and he knew Watson after their encounter, and he said neither ever "said or otherwise indicated that our interaction was not consensual or caused her any discomfort". Consequently, I call on all appropriate and impartial investigatory authorities, including the FBI, to investigate fully and thoroughly the allegations against me by Ms. Watson and Dr. Tyson. I want to stand here in that truth and restate that my truth, as well as the truth of Dr. Tyson and Ms. Watson, should be fully investigated and thoroughly assessed.

"Duke first learned of the allegations involving a student-athlete [Friday] when they were reported by the media". He said that an "independent investigation" being conducted by Eastern Virginia Medical School is aimed at clearing up the facts around it. She went to the Dean, who provided no help and discouraged her from pursuing the claim further.

A Duke spokesman told USA Today that they had only just become aware of the allegations and are now looking into them. She said that the attack she experienced was similar to that alleged by Dr. Vanessa Tyson, who said Fairfax forced her to perform oral sex after consensual kissing in 2004.

"I believe and trust that due process will provide the fairness, justice and honesty that is necessary", Fairfax said in a statement on Saturday.

Hundreds of academics have also signed a letter in support of Prof Tyson, according to the Times.

"She said she couldn't speak, but she was trying to get up and he kept pushing her down", said Ms Adams.

A man who was romantically involved with Tyson in the late 1990s said Thursday that she disclosed the childhood abuse to him during a conversation about why she found certain kinds of physical intimacy hard. The official was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Friday's allegation from Meredith Watson comes just days after Vanessa Tyson accused him of sexual assault back in 2004. The man said he finds it almost impossible to believe that Tyson would have performed oral sex without being forced. Fairfax has maintained the allegations against him are not true.

When asked Saturday night which basketball player Watson was referencing, Erin Friedlander of Evergreen Partners-the group issuing the statement on behalf of Watson-said the firm was "only providing the information contained in our statements at this time".

"She left a campus party when he arrived, and he followed her out", Smith wrote in her statement. He revealed that Ms. Watson was the victim of a prior rape.

"Ms. Watson shared her account of the rape with friends in a series of emails and Facebook messages that are now in our possession", the statement reads.
