Ex-Oklahoma Coach Bob Stoops to Run XFL's Dallas Franchise

The relaunch season for the XFL kicks off in 2020 on Saturday, February 8 and Sunday, February 9, the weekend following the NFL's Super Bowl.

Stoops was introduced in a news conference Thursday by Oliver Luck, commissioner of the XFL.

Stoops has been retired the last two years after resigning as the Sooners coach in June of 2017 following 18 seasons in Norman.

"I was also excited about starting something from the ground floor", Stoops said.

Coach Stoops is the winningest coach in Oklahoma history with a 190-48 overall record. I thought one of the best things I ever did in my career was getting my first staff together at OU.

Stoops is a good friend of Jim Ross" which isn't that big of a surprise considering how big of a Boomer Sooner fan Good "ole JR is.

Talk of Stoops heading to the XFL first surfaced a couple of weeks ago and it was confirmed today. "The opportunity to put it together and help it grow". The 59 year-old coach led the Sooners to a National Championship in 2000.

Some expected that Stoops, 58, would return to coaching at some point following a brief hiatus, but most believed that would come in the FBS collegiate ranks to rejuvenate another program if he stepped back on the sidelines again.
