Of the confirmed cases, most patients are under age 10. Although Chelan and Douglas Counties do not now have a confirmed case of measles, public health officials are working closely with school districts and healthcare providers to ensure students and staff are up to-date on their vaccines. At the time in the USA, the disease annually infected between 3-4 million people and killed as many as 500. In recent years, however, the viral illness has popped up again from NY to California and sickened hundreds.

People who think they may have the measles should call their health care provider before showing up so the facility can take steps to limit other people's exposure. "We've since looked at millions of kids completely debunking that there's any link between autism and [the vaccine]".

Although there are many reasons why a parent who believes in vaccinations might not be able to get their child immunized (including allergies and illnesses), people are calling out this mom as "anti-vax" since her message went viral. There have also been three reported cases in Atlanta, Georgia.

Rubella is very risky for a pregnant woman and her developing baby. Although rubella was declared eliminated from the U.S.in 2004, cases can occur when unvaccinated people are exposed to infected people, mostly through worldwide travel.

Now the CDC is speaking out about the scope of the outbreak and what can be done to stop it in it's tracks. Pregnant women who contract rubella are at risk for miscarriage or stillbirth, and their developing babies are at risk for severe birth defects with devastating, lifelong consequences.

In the event of a measles outbreak, WAC 246-105-080 authorizes schools (public or private), child care centers, or the local Health Officer to exclude any child or staff who does not have appropriate documentation of immunity against measles.

There are 40 confirmed cases in the Northwest, including 38 clustered in southwest Washington, one in Portland and one in Seattle. Thirteen additional suspected cases were reported on Wednesday, and some of those will likely be confirmed, Melnick said. Get vaccinated now!
