The Lexus LC Convertible Concept in Photos

"This concept takes the unmistakable design of the LC coupe and reimagines it as a future convertible", said Tadao Mori, chief designer of the LC Convertible concept. Lexus has revealed the new model ahead of its public debut at Detroit, and, while you still have to make your peace with that grille, it does look stupendously moreish from many angles. We'd like to apply that same present tense to its status as a production vehicle.

This engine has been around for ages serving all of Lexus' F performance cars for over a decade. It's unsurprisingly based on the LC Coupe, but amps up that car's striking design with a drop-top and long rear deck. That said, Lexus brass seems to think the Lexus LC Convertible would be a good idea. It's shown in the above image to be a fabric roof, setting it apart from Lexus' last convertible supercar - the much-maligned SC 430 - which had a hard-top arrangement.

Yes, Lexus has chopped the top off of its flagship LC to create a stunning concept auto that will most likely preview an upcoming production model. The LC does also feature the same 2+2 seating layout as all of these cars.

There are some distinctive details that one spots while gazing at the images of the new droptop, notably the crisply creased flying buttresses that flow from behind the headrests nearly all the way to the tail of the LC Convertible concept.

"A production version of this concept would be exhilarating in many different ways", Mori suggests.

The short overhangs, enormous 22-inch wheels and wide stance remind the public of the performance potential of this concept auto. In the company of force-fed rivals you could say the 5.0-litre V8 in the Lexus is old, or you could say it's damn characterful and puts a smile on your face every time the needle screams past 4,000rpm.
