Despite that seeming like an impossibility, or a complete waste of time, somehow the Egg Gang - an unknown person or group who created the account with the express goal of setting said world record - succeeded in their attempt.

Cape Town - Kylie Jenner's announcement of the birth of her daughter has been replaced as the most-liked post on Instagram.

The simple photo of an egg on a plain, white background has surpassed the 18.1 million likes required to steal the record from Kylie.

It's from an account identifying itself as EGG GANG, and it's the only post from that profile, whose sole reason for existing was to beat Jenner's record.

The user explained to the online news portal that they made a decision to beat the world record just as a challenge but had nothing personal against Kylie Jenner.

As fans know all too well, before this, it was the younger of the Jenner sisters who had the most liked post on Instagram. "We got this", the caption read.

The now-outranked photo Jenner posted to receive millions of like was of her daughter, Stormi Webster.

While the reality TV star and Instagram royalty seemed unbothered about being upstaged, she clapped back on Monday (Jan 14), with a reposted Snapchat video of herself cracking an egg on a hot sidewalk. It's a picture of an egg. Thank you all so much for your support and messages. It doesn't end here though, we're only just getting started.
