Person driving blindfolded crashes while playing the 'Bird Box Challenge'

"Bird Box Challenge while driving.predictable result", the Layton Police Department tweeted following the accident.

The driver then lost control and slid into the westbound lane, striking a white passenger vehicle and a light pole near 675 Layton Parkway, Lyman said.

"Luckily no injuries", police wrote.

Layton Police said that a 17-year-old girl was driving down Utah's Layton Parkway on Monday when she chose to cover her eyes with her beanie to participate in the so-called "Bird Box Challenge" and immediately lost control of her grey truck.

No one was injured in the crash - a relief to Netflix, which earlier this month issued a warning to fans of the film to lay off the blindfold stunts. They reportedly called out the Bird Box Challenge specifically.

Officers said she was participating in the popular "Bird Box" social media challenge.

Of course, if you've seen Bird Box, you know there's a scene in which several characters make a white-knuckle drive in a auto with the windows covered, and it's hardly a smooth ride.

However, police have requested that the driver be charged with reckless driving, Lt Lyman said.

The challenge is based on the hit Netflix movie starring Sandra Bullock where characters must constantly be blindfolded to avoid visions that urge them to commit suicide.

When the movie first came out, Netflix gave a clear warning to viewers to not try the unsafe challenge.
