The Blues outcast however remains the favourite candidate to seal a move to the Camp Nou during the winter transfer window.

Sevilla are also in negotiations to sign Morata on loan until the end of the season with a view to making it a permanent deal but are unwilling to pay his entire £140,000-a-week wages.

Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Alvaro Morata from Chelsea this month, according to Goal.

Peter Crouch, who now plays for Stoke City, called upon Chelsea to re-sign former striker Diego Costa, who joined Atletico Madrid just last summer.

"It is true that we have an interest in this player [Morata], but it is a very, very complicated operation", Caparros told the Sevilla's official television channel (as reported by Goal).

'I can't confirm or deny anything because coaches wait to see what the club can do.

"Some players want more minutes, some could be sold by the club, some could arrive".

The 26-year-old is believed to be keen on returning to Madrid despite playing for Atletico's rivals Real and is enticed by the prospect of working under Diego Simeone. "We need to wait until January 31", he is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

Goal claims the out-of-favour Chelsea striker has held talks with the Spanish giants over a loan deal while his other options dally.

Sevilla are also keen on the Spain worldwide, but their sporting director Joaquin Caparros admitted on Tuesday: 'It is true that we have an interest in this player [Morata], but it is a very, very complicated operation.

Speaking to BBC Sport, La Liga expert Guillem Balague has explained that Morata's agent has been in Spain speaking to clubs about his client's future.
