Liverpool's FA Cup exit is no blessing, insists James Milner

Liverpool's FA Cup exit is no blessing, insists James Milner

Maybe a few smart people would have said I didn't respect the competition. The pitch all night was a bit tricky and balls were a bit lively but it's the same for both teams. We tried everything until the end and you can not say the attitude wasn't there until the last minute - we tried everything. "Without that maybe it's 1-1 and we get a replay".

Jurgen Klopp's side now maintain a four-point lead over Man City, and an immediate response will be required to maintain that lead as the title race truly heats up.

Either way, Jurgen Klopp clearly has the FA Cup far down on his list of priorities, and with the opportunity to end a 28 year wait for a league title, could you blame him?

"Of course, we are disappointed after this game because we lost, first of all, but I think we didn't deserve this result because we tried to play football", Shaqiri told Liverpool's official website.

Liverpool are now at the top of the Premier League but suffered their first defeat of the season against Manchester City in their last outing. But what happened and we had to change again. I think you've got to look at those boys today and say how well they've done.

Sir Kenny Dalglish has his say on Liverpool's Premier League defeat to Manchester City

"It's disappointing but we have to make sure we recover and bounce back from this". However, Milner admitted their form is just a minor "blip" and backed his side to get back to winning ways.

"You're never going to go a full season without having blips", Milner continued.

"I think they realise they've got a massive chance [to win the league], obviously they got beat at Man City on Thursday, but they are still four points clear".

"This season we have the depth". It's how you respond and how you bounce back.

Liverpool's first choice team would not have lost at Molineux, yet the performances of some of Klopp's back-up players confirmed what we already knew; a lot of them are not good enough to be playing for this club.
