Gonzalo HIGUAIN close to leaving AC Milan and joining Chelsea

Chelsea are continuing their efforts to sign AC Milan striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to reports from England.

The Argentinean global is now on loan at the San Siro from Juve but after starting life at Milan in superb form with 7 goals in his first 9 appearances, the striker is going through a dry spell having netted just once in his last 11 outings.

Father-figure Sarri will believe he is the man to get the player firing on full cylinders after his prolific spell in Naples saw him hit 71 goals in 104 appearances, and will believe a rejuvenated Higuain can fire Chelsea to a top-four finish in the table.

Higuain is now on loan to AC Milan from Juventus, but the Rossoneri are reportedly ready and willing to let the 31-year-old end his spell early as they are struggling to pay his hefty wages.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri's primary target is Higuain, who he worked with during his time at Napoli.

Higuain's arrival would reportedly lead to the departure of Alvaro Morata with the Spaniard strongly linked with a move away from West London this month after a disappointing 18 months at Chelsea following his arrival from Real Madrid in 2017.

He impressed when Leicester visited Stamford Bridge just before Christmas, scoring the only goal of the game as Sarri's unbeaten home record was ended - it was his fourth strike against the Blues in nine matches.

The Argentine frontman bagged a stunning 36 Serie A goals from 35 appearances under Sarri's tutelage in the 2015/16 campaign.

"He had a tough moment, he has to put it behind him and get to work", said Leonardo. He's only netted six goals in the league as he struggles for form.
