NBA looking into circumstances of Patrick McCaw signing

The Cavaliers signed McCaw to an two-year, non-guaranteed $6 million contract that the Warriors declined to match.

According to the New York Times, the league will launch a formal review into the matter, per Golden State's request. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because no details of the probe have been revealed publicly. McCaw officially joined the Cavaliers' roster on Monday, Dec. 31 after Golden State decided not to match Cleveland's offer. Without knowing for sure, it certainly looks like a predetermined move by the Cavs and McCaw to get him out from under the Warriors' control and able to seek out a deal wherever he can find one, without that team anxious about their offer being matched.

How long the league's review will take has not been determined, nor is it clear what the Warriors might be seeking.

McCaw, a restricted free agent, signed a two-year, $6 million offer sheet with the Cavaliers on December 28. "I don't know that there's been a totally non-guaranteed offer sheet before".

McCaw is now slated to become an unrestricted free agent. Yes, the player who Cleveland signed on a two-year, $6 million deal and waived three games later.
