Ramos slams 'scandalous' refereeing after Real Madrid loss

Madrid had the chance to move level on points with third-placed Sevilla, who drew 1-1 at home to Atletico Madrid, but goals from Willian Jose and Ruben Pardo left the Champions League holders languishing in fifth and 10 points off the pace.

Real Madrid are now 10 points behind La Liga league leaders, Barcelona on the table.

Club captain Sergio Ramos called a squad meeting for Monday at the club's training ground where the defender said some straight talking would take place, with midfielder Luka Modric having backed Solari in the Bernabeu mixed-zone Sunday night against some very harsh local media criticism.

Real Madrid may not even challenge for the title let alone win it as a shock 2-0 defeat at home to Real Sociedad on Sunday (Jan 6) left them even further adrift in La Liga.

"You can not blame the coach, he is doing a fantastic job and he is not the one failing to score goals or keep them out at the other end". "I've always defended the VAR system, but it has to be improved because what we've seen was scandalous". He has played just one of the last seven games as a starter. He has hope, but we are out there on the field and we have to do better to have more concentration.

"We can not have this bulls-- every game". You have to find solutions, lots of players are not performing at their best. We must avoid it in future.

DF Marcelo, 5 - Backed by Solari prematch amid criticism following recent poor form, but there was no improvement and more whistles from the crowd as ex-Manchester United winger Januzaj led the Brazilian a merry dance.

"There are reasons why we are bad and you have to see what they are". We created but we lacked the goal and that's our problem. We can't blame the referee for the result, although he had a defining role, but we've also got to look at ourselves.

His touches and speed helped him in quickly turning away from his marker and he showed no fear whilst going for the ball.

"We are all human and we all make mistakes, but when you have the chance to look over the evidence again and you do not, it's hard to understand".
