Family of 5 from MI killed in head-on crash in Kentucky

A MI family of five is dead after Their SUV was struck by a wrong way driver.

The northbound lanes of I-75 were closed near the Athens-Boonesboro Road exit due to the crash.

When investigators got to the scene they discovered that the pickup truck driven by Bailey had hit the family's SUV head-on, causing the SUV to burst into flames.

WKYT reports five people inside the SUV died along with the driver of the pickup.

The driver of the white pickup was identified as 41-year-old Joey Lee Bailey of Georgetown.

A coroner's statement identified them as 42-year-old Issam Abbas, 38-year-old Rima Abbas, 14-year-old Ali Abbas, 13-year-old Isabella Abbas, and 7-year-old Giselle Abbas.

The Northville family was returning home from vacation, when a pickup truck struck them head on.

Witness Kenneth DeGraaf told WLEX-TV the truck was coming toward him before the fiery collision. Her husband, Issam, worked as a realtor in the area.

Rima Abbas was a well-known doctor with Beaumont Health in MI and her husband, Issam, was a real estate agent and lawyer in the area, according to WDIV Local 4. "You think to yourself, "What's the worst case scenario?' and that's it".

The funeral for the Abbas family is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Dearborn, Mich., according to the Detroit News. She is also affiliated with Beaumont Hospital Wayne, according to the Beaumont website. I was in the center lane. Dr. Rima Abbas worked for Beaumont Health and had a family practice in Garden City.

'They had a lovely life, home and a flawless love story, ' the cousin told via detroitnews. I mean, he was flying.

"See this tragedy is not only us now, for the family, is for the whole community and for the humanity too because anybody can hear about this tragedy is going to feel it", Hassan said.
