Huawei announces HONOR View20 flagship smartphone with a 48MP rear camera

The company will be launching the Honor V20 phone globally on January 22 at an event in Paris. As per the leaked information, the V20 will come with a 25MP front-facing camera. The smartphone is Honor's first smartphone to sport a punch-hole display, which is a new smartphone aesthetic which aims at skipping the notch cutout, which became a defining feature of 2018 smartphones.

"The Honor View 20 features a large 6.4" Full HD+ display that comes with an in-screen 25MP selfie camera. The View 20 is a phone that comes with all the latest technologies like in display selfie camera, a 48MP camera that sits on the rear panel, gradient finish design and so much more.

After a brief teaser last week, Huawei's sub-brand Honor has officially unveiled its latest smartphone, the Honor View 20. It comes with 6GB or 8GB of RAM, and option for 128GB or 256GB storage with support expandable storage.

To quickly recap: The View 20 sports a 6.4-inch 2,310 x 1,080 LCD garnished with an in-screen 25-megapixel f/2.0 front camera, and it's powered by Huawei's flagship Kirin 980 7nm chipset. Around back there is the 48MP Sony IMX586 CMOS sensor.

What do you think of the Honor View 20? According to the company, the diameter of the camera hole on the Honor View 20 is just 4.5mm in diameter. Packed with a 4,000mAh battery, the phone also supports fast charging.

On the software front it runs on EMUI based on Android 9.0 Pie OS out-of-the-box. The third camera is a depth sensor, also known as Time of Flight (ToF) The camera is backed by a range of machine learning-based algorithms for auto optimisation for different scenes. Huawei has also included dual-band GPS technology for more accurate GPS positioning.

While the regular edition of the smartphone comes will be available in charm blue, red, and midnight black colour options, the special edition phone will be available in red and blue.

In China, the Honor V20 is priced at 2,999 yuan (about RM1,814) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model and 3,499 yuan (about RM2,116) for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage version. At an event a few hours ago, the company finally launched the device for the Chinese market, with it billed to go on sale on December 28.
