YouTube Rewind 2018 Becomes Site's Most Disliked Video

In comparison, Justin Bieber's "Baby," which was regarded as the most-disliked video on the platform for years, has just under 10 million dislikes, with 10 million likes.

YouTube's 2018 Rewind video, which now has over 10 million dislikes with only 2.1 million likes, further demonstrated this anger.

Every year since 2010, YouTube has put together an official year in review video, an overview of the year's most popular videos, moments, and creators. Shortly after the video went live on the network, people started criticising it for not featuring the top moments.

However, YouTube insists they're still happy with the video. With over 9.8 million likes, the video has contrastingly just over 2.1 million likes.

It has nearly 10.1 million "dislikes", with more than 82% of its viewers saying they did not enjoy it. Part of it is due to Bieber fans, sensing a chance to redeem "Baby", disliking the "Rewind" video en masse.

Brownlee in a series of tweets explained why the video was getting negative criticism. YouTube Rewind 2018 took about 8 days to surpass that number.

One of the major issues with this year's YouTube Rewind, according to prominent members of the YouTube community, is that some of the platform's biggest stars, like PewDiePie, Shane Dawson, and Logan Paul are completely omitted from the video. YouTube wants Rewind to be a couple minutes they can show to advertisers and say "look at all the great stuff over here that you want to spend your dollars on!" On this year's YouTube rewind video, however, dislikes make up over 80 percent of the like-to-dislike amount.

While the message those 'Tubers who did appear seemed to be a fairly positive one - celebrating the diversity of the communities on the platform - there's no doubt that, for many, it rang hollow with the exclusion of the actual big events and people who made up the bulk of YouTube's biggest stories this year.
