Venezuela-Russia wargames an 'alert' for region: Colombia

Russian Federation sent about 100 pilots and other personnel along with two Tupolev-160 bombers and two other aircraft to Caracas.

After Russian Tu-160 strategic bombers performed a rare 10-hour-long practice flight with the Venezuelan Air Force over the Caribbean, the Defense Ministry has released footage showing the drill from a unique perspective.

Ms Sanders said: "We have spoken with the representatives of Russian Federation and have been informed that their military aircraft, which landed in Venezuela, will be leaving on Friday and going back to Russian Federation". The vessel is capable of carrying nuclear as well as conventional missiles.

The deployment of the aircraft drew a particularly pointed response from U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, in a posting to Twitter.

The Kremlin responded to what it believes are "inappropriate" and "undiplomatic" comments by Pompeo.

"The presence of this foreign military mission violates the Venezuelan Constitution because it has not been authorized by the National Assembly, as required by Article 187, paragraph 11", the OAS said in a statement, adding, "Therefore, we consider such an act harmful to Venezuelan sovereignty". The U.S. has accused Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro of undermining democratic institutions amid the country's growing political and economic crisis.

The bombers' arrival came just days after Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro visited Moscow, seeking Kremlin support for his country, whose economy is in shambles and deeply in debt to Russian Federation. Users of Twitter openly Express their views on this issue.

The operational flights to be held between both nations are considered to be a "demonstration of strength", by Venezuela's defense ministry.

Last week, President Maduro called Russian Federation a "brother country" with which Venezuela had "raised the flag for the creation of a multipolar and multicentric world", while Russia's Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said that he hoped military cooperation between the two countries would continue.
