Saints’ Hasenhuttl: Bring it on

Saints’ Hasenhuttl: Bring it on

The Austrian has been appointed St Mary's manager on a two-and-a-half year deal, replacing Mark Hughes.

Harry Kane, Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min scored to give Tottenham a 3-1 victory over Southampton on Wednesday, sending the north London club up to third in the Premier League.

Saints had let in 14 goals in their past five away matches in Premier League prior to the trip to Wembley and another feeble performance at the back should put sorting that defence close to the top of the Austrian's to-do list. Hasenhuttl might also be using the South-Coast club as his English stepping stone. That's how I want to work at January and that's when we look. It's a bit back to the roots for me.

"On reflection from the whole game, I don't think anyone would say we didn't deserve at least one goal".

"Maybe this step isn't the easiest one, but I never wanted easy in my life".

Hasenhuttl's first team selection for the Saints is unlikely to include captain Ryan Bertrand as he is a doubt after missing the mid-week defeat to Tottenham, BBC Sport understands.

Ralph Hasenhuttl may have managed in the Bundesliga and the Champions League, but he is still all-too aware of the challenges presented by Neil Warnock.

After 15-ti rounds of the championship of England "Southampton" is in the 18th place in the standings, in the relegation zone.

'The focus for the near future has to be move as quickly as you can up the table. If you have the chance to do that, okay.

Hasenhuettl, who will take over from interim Kelvin Davis, who becomes the new manager's No. 2, will have been encouraged by the final 30 minutes as Southampton were the better side and grabbed a late consolation through Charlie Austin.

With Hasenhuettl assessing his players, left back Matt Targett produced some lax defending that allowed Spurs to take a ninth-minute lead.

"I want to bring them to their limits".

'I know the league now.

Pompey go in search of an eighth consecutive win in all competitions when they host Southend.

Krueger said Hasenhuttl represented an ideal match for the club.

"While we're here the fans have been fantastic".
