MLB’s Jose Castillo, Luis Valbuena Killed In Car Crash

The accident occurred on Thursday, according to their Cardenales de Lara team in the Venezuelan Winter League.

According to reports, both Castillo and Major League Baseball free agent Luis Valbuena were killed when their auto hit a rock in the road, and crashed. He played with the Pittsburgh Pirates, the San Fransico Giants and the Houston Astros.

Valbuena, 33, was a Cubs infielder from 2012 to 2014.

"We are living through a frightful tragedy", the Cardenales said on Twitter.

Valbuena played 11 seasons in the Major League Baseball, including two with the Los Angeles Angels - whom he was with until his release from the team in April 2018.

Our thoughts are with the families of both Luis Valbuena and Jose Castillo. The driver, former major leaguer Carlos Rivero who played briefly with the Red Sox in 2004, survived the accident. In 592 career games, he hit.254 with a.296 on-base percentage, a.379 slugging percentage, 39 homers and 218 RBIs.

Former infielders killed in crash while leaving game in Venezuela. "Our thoughts and prayers are with their loved ones during this time of grief". He was a productive player on the field and played a key role in the Astros run to the postseason in 2015.

Valbuena and Castillo's deaths drew reactions from people that knew them best - fellow Major League Baseball players and the people who covered them. He played this year for Tijuana in the Mexican League.
