Kevin Hart steps down from Oscars hosting gig, apologizes for homophobic tweets

"Comedian Kevin Hart is cleansing his social media feed after anti-gay tweets by the performer recently resurfaced following his announcement as the next Oscars host", Buzzfeed reported.

Hart stepped aside just about an hour after refusing to apologize for tweets that resurfaced after he was announced as Oscars host on Tuesday.

The comedian took to Twitter early on Friday morning with the news, saying that he apologises to the LGBTQ community for his "insensitive words" from his past.

The tweets highlighted by Lee have all now been deleted by Hart, but a quick Twitter search confirms that there's a lot more where they came from that have yet to be deleted.

In one tweet, which was posted in 2011, Hart said if his son were to come home and try to play with his daughter's doll house that he would "break it over his head".

Hart has since deleted some of the anti-gay tweets, mostly dated from 2009-2011.

But while Hart has been deleting past tweets, in a video statement he posted on Instagram Thursday, he said he's not going to get all worked up over the "craziness". Hart initially refused to revisit the issue, which he claimed he had addressed several times in the past.

"I chose to pass on the apology", Mr Hart said. "I've said where the rights and wrongs were". But we hope he has a lovely day.

"I have said who I am now versus who I was then".

Many are calling for him to be removed as the host of the 2019 Oscars.

"I am blown away simply because this has been a goal on my list for a long time", Hart wrote on his Instagram page. I'm not going to do it, man.

In the video, Hart criticized "internet trolls" for digging up his old tweets and said, "The same energy that went into finding those old tweets is the same energy that could have been put into finding the response to the questions that have been asked years after years".

Well, you know what they say: The best way to show everyone you know how to "live" "learn" "grow" and "mature" is by blaming them for the consequences of your own actions.

A representative for the academy did not immediately respond to messages after Hart stepped down. Discussing this bit today, Hart says, "It's about my fear".

'Keep in mind, I'm not homophobic, I have nothing against gay people, do what you want to do, but me, being a heterosexual male, if I can prevent my son from being gay, I will, ' Hart said. Murphy soon after exited, as well.
