"The flu vaccine is the single best way to protect you and your loved ones against the flu", Commissioner of DPH Jeff Howard, M.D.

Missoula City-County Health Department, in conjunction with the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS), has confirmed the state's first influenza-related death of the 2018-2019 flu season involving a child from Missoula County.

A time set aside to encourage those who have not gotten the flu shot to get vaccinated.

It's never too early or late in the season to get vaccinated.

The survey also found that 67 percent of those surveyed would still go to work if they were feeling ill with flu-like symptoms, up two percent from past year.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone, from ages six months or older, to get a flu shot each year.

Flu is typically spread by droplets when someone with the flu talks, coughs, or sneezes. It also spreads when people touch certain surfaces or objects contaminated with the droplets. Symptoms include cough, fever, body aches and extreme exhaustion.

"Getting a flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself, your family and others from the flu and help keep our community healthy", said Sevier County Health Department Director Jana Chambers. Most people recover from the flu without complications, but nationwide there are up to 200,000 hospitalizations from flu each year.

This year, Rite Aid is once again teaming up with Dr. Jennifer Caudle, a nationally renowned health expert and practicing family physician, to raise awareness about the importance of getting vaccinated.

"Many people may be working, studying or gathering in environments where they are readily exposed to the flu virus".

The flu is a respiratory condition which means it affects your breathing.
