Here are some more photos of Sully at his late owner's casket. Bush, who died on November 30, will return to Houston for his funeral on Thursday.

Ahead of Wednesday's state funeral - where Trump will reportedly sit in the front row, but not deliver a eulogy - the president tweeted he would visit the "wonderful Bush family" at the presidential guest residence Blair House across from the White House.

"Here lies a great man", said Rep. Paul Ryan, the House speaker, and "a gentle soul".

"Today, this hero has returned to the Capitol a final time", said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican.

Melania represented the current White House.

Greg Gutfeld honored the late President George Herbert Walker Bush in his monologue on "The Five" Tuesday.

George W. and Laura Bush entered first, and the former president put his hand on the flag-draped casket holding the remains of his father.

Although President Donald Trump will attend Bush's national funeral service Wednesday, he is not among the eulogists announced by the Bush family, a list that includes George W. Bush.

Bush's body was flown to Washington, D.C., on Monday. Texans will be able to pay their respects as the train makes the journey - an estimated two hours and 25 minutes - from Spring, Texas to College Station, Texas.

"I think it's night and day", said Sheila Murray, 58, from Stevensville, Maryland, who came with her 14-year-old son, Thomas.

He will be buried alongside his wife Barbara Bush who died seven months ago, and Robin Bush, the daughter the couple lost to leukemia in 1953 at age 3.

National days of mourning don't happen often, so you may be confused about what's open and what's not. Many banks and other businesses also will shut down, and government buildings are flying flags at half-staff until December 30. Bush was a pilot in the Navy who served in World War II.

Bush served two terms as vice president under Republican President Ronald Reagan before his own stint in the Oval Office from 1989 to 1993, a time that saw the end of the Cold War as well as the U.S. routing of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's army in the 1991 Gulf War.
