US Secretary of Defense: Vladimir Putin is "slow learner"

US Secretary of Defense: Vladimir Putin is

US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis on Saturday blasted Moscow following the Russian navy's "brazen" violation of a waterway treaty with Kiev and the seizure of three Ukrainian vessels. "He is not recognizing that what he is doing is actually creating the animosity against his people, he's not acting in the best interest of the Russian people", the secretary said during Q&A following his keynote speech.

In remarks at the Reagan National Defense Forum in Simi Valley, California, Mattis said the U.S.

US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis said on Saturday that Russian Federation tried to meddle in the US midterm elections last month - just as it did in the 2016 vote that brought President Donald Trump to power.

"Mr. Putin is clearly a "slow learner" (an expression, often translated as" slowly thinking, " stupid", - ed.).

Russia said the Ukrainian ships had breached the Russian border and conducted risky movements in spite of Russia's orders.

In regards to the importance of the USA military presence in Afgahnistan, Secretary Mattis has said "If we leave, with 20-odd of the most risky terrorist groups in the world centered in that region, we know what will happen".

He also praised Trump's decision to increase USA troop levels in Afghanistan last year, and said that "for the first time in 17 years, the United Nations believes we have hope for peace".

Russian Federation continues to violate worldwide agreements to which the United States cannot trust the leadership of this country.

The US Defense Secretary James Mattis has said that deepening security co-operation between the US and India shows the growing trust between the world's two largest democracies. The White House on Saturday said Trump, however, did have an "informal" conversation with the Russian president.

"Frankly, I regret the president didn't meet with Putin" at the G-20 Summit.
