Police 'Tie Pieces Of The Puzzle Together' In Lyn Dawson Murder

He insisted he wasn't a flight risk and understood the allegations were serious - but the magistrate ruled in favour of police, and Mr Dawson spent last night at Southport Watchhouse awaiting his extradition to NSW.

10 News First reporter Matthew Howard reported that he would instead be extradited on Thursday.

Nearly 40 years after Sydney mother Lynette Dawson disappeared, her husband spent his first night in police custody accused of her murder.

"No doubt it will be a voluminous brief with an enormous amount of evidence and there are a number of witnesses that will be called".

He said two witness statements in particular helped piece the evidence together.

Ms Dawson was 33 when she went missing from their home on Sydney's northern beaches in January 1982 leaving behind two young daughters.

The mystery case gained global media attention and a cult following, with The Teacher's Pet podcast trending internationally and attracting 27 million listeners around the world.

A forensic search of the home the Dawsons once shared in Bayview was undertaken.

Lynette Dawson's body was never found.

Chris Dawson will be extradited to NSW over the suspected murder of his wife, Lynette, who disappeared from their Sydney home almost 37 years ago.

Earlier this week, the ODPP provided advice to police, and following further inquiries, NSW Police detectives applied for an arrest warrant before travelling to Queensland.

"We haven't given up hope in terms of finding Lynette Dawson's body".

"We have sold homicide before without identifying the body", he continued.

Commissioner Fuller says they won't give up on trying to identify Lyn's whereabouts but locating her remains isn't crucial to finalising the matter.

The 70-year-old was arrested by detectives on Wednesday morning at his Queensland home.

Police have spoken to Lyn Dawson's family this morning, who are "relieved". "That makes it very weak", he said.

"I'm sure there's a hell a lot of people around Australia who are in the same situation as us in relation to a loved one going missing, but it's just one of those things you grin and bear it and we've fought to keep our sister's name out there and finally we've got some sort of justice on the way".

The Teacher's Pet - the podcast made by journalists from The Australian newspaper - details a troubled marriage leading up to the disappearance and scrutinises the police response to it.

As fans of the podcast will know, her husband Chris, a former rugby player and PE teacher at a local high school has always been suspected of involvement.

The magistrate said the crown alleged domestic violence allegations against Mr Dawson would be raised in evidence, as well as evidence from the woman involved in the affair - Mr Dawson's former student Joanne Curtis.
