According to Gruden, the Redskins are working out two quarterbacks Tuesday.

The Redskins had already lost starter Alex Smith with a season-ending injury, and finished the game against the Eagles with journeyman signal-caller Mark Sanchez at quarterback.

Now the Redskins will turn to Mark Sanchez, who starts at QB next Sunday for the Redskins (6-6) against the visiting New York Giants (4-8).

Now, the Redskins are once again on the market for a quarterback, needing someone to come in and backup Sanchez in case he too goes down.

"There's not a lot of time to get a brand-new quarterback and system installed in a couple of days", he said.

Gruden later went on to say, however, that the team would, after discussion, likely go in a different direction, and bypass the signing of the former San Francisco 49ers star. And Redskins assistant head coach/offensive line coach Bill Callahan served in the same role with the Jets when Sanchez was there.

Gruden said the team questioned whether Kaepernick would have enough time to learn a "whole new offense". The injury ends McCoy's season. Clearly, a player's character isn't an issue when making a signing, so what is holding them back from bringing in Kaepernick?

He was the first player to kneel during the USA national anthem. Sanchez completed 13 of 21 passes for 100 yards and led a field goal drive to close the second quarter. Gruden said there's a chance McCoy would be ready for the December 30 finale vs. Philadelphia. He filed a grievance against the National Football League past year, saying team owners colluded to keep him off rosters.
