The speakers at this event will include his son, former President George W. Bush, former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, former Senator Alan Simpson, R-Wyoming, and presidential biographer Jon Meacham, who also eulogized Barbara Bush. "Mission complete. #Remembering41", the caption read.

Sully is named after retired airline pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger III, who gained fame when he landed a damaged passenger jet on New York's Hudson River in 2009.

Following the funeral in Washington, Bush's casket will be returned to Houston, where a private service is scheduled for Thursday.

Sully will now join the facility dog program at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Facing the nation for the first time as its president, George H.W. Bush vowed to lead with humility, moral principle and a spirit of unity.

Sully can perform a bevy of sophisticated commands, including answering the phone and fetching lost items as small as a credit card.

"As one person said, he can do just about anything except make you a martini, but not to worry, he can go get you someone to make you a martini", Bush family spokesman Jim McGrath said in June. Barbara Bush died on April 17 at their Houston home.

The photo touched the hearts of many Twitter users. His body will then be transported by a special train to its final resting place, the Bush Presidential Library in College Station, Texas.

"I think he was one of the kindest, most generous men", said Marge Frazier, who visited the downtown statue on Sunday while showing friends from California around.

Bush died Friday at his home in Houston at 94.

His casket will be transported by motorcade Wednesday morning to the National Cathedral, where a state funeral will be held at 11 a.m. EST. Wednesday has been designated by President Trump as a national day of mourning, and most federal agencies will be closed with federal workers given the day off.

"To be honest, at one point in history, ' he said, "it would not have been exceptional to have a president who obeyed and appreciated the norms of the American system and of the presidency, who was civil, who was kind to people and who rose above petty squabbles".
