Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang had set the Gunners on their way with the opener from the penalty spot in the 10th minute, but goals from Eric Dier and Harry Kane put Tottenham 2-1 up.

Former Arsenal and England forward Ian Wright, speaking as a pundit on BBC television, said: "I've played against Spurs and I've taken a lot of abuse from Spurs but never ever has it been racial.

We don't give up and that's the mentality", Aubameyang said. We show our supporters and we give them this victory because it's a very special match against Tottenham.

"Sure, it's a very big game and we know this and we're going to do everything we can to get three points. We are happy, we are enjoying, but shocked because Tottenham are on 30 points like us".

"We need to continue our process, creating our way".

Arsenal were not done though and Unai Emery brought on Aaron Ramsey and Alexandre Lacazette for Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan at half-time, changing shape in the process.

Arsenal could also be without Ozil against United on Wednesday night after the German worldwide missed the win over Tottenham with an apparent back problem.

Emery is fast gaining a reputation as a master tactician not afraid to make big decisions at half-time in a bid to win games.

"I did not know what happened but sometimes these situations happen. And because Aaron has experience against Tottenham, he has experience in derby matches, he has experience to help us come back in the 90 minutes against every team".

Arsenal hero Emmanuel Petit has questioned the future of Mesut Ozil at the club.

Ozil was not in the Arsenal squad, having missed the trip to Ukraine this week, and it was claimed by Arsenal sources that he had suffered a recurrence of a back spasm. Sunday's result at the Emirates was a good start.

"We can always see that in the second half we play very well", Aubameyang said.
