Cristiano Ronaldo set to boycott this year's Ballon d'Or ceremony

Despite popular opinion claiming Luka Modric doesn't deserve to even be in the top three for the award, the Croat is all set to take home the 2018 Ballon d'Or.

Other than the duopoly, no other Ballon d'Or victor is still playing given that Kaka retired a year ago.

The 2018 Ballon d'Or victor is set to be announced later tonight, with the Lionel Messi-Cristiano Ronaldo stranglehold on the award finally set to come to an end.

Here, FOX Sports Asia predicts the top 5 finishers in the 2018 Ballon d'Or race. The first name on the team sheet for both Madrid & Croatia, the 33 -year old has been masterful with the ball controlling games with his passing, vision and forward drive.

Few weeks after winning the Federation Internationale de Football Association best men's player prize for helping his national team reach their first ever World Cup final in Russia.

If Modric does indeed lift the trophy, it will be the first time since 2007 - when Kaka won the award - that it has not gone to Messi or Ronaldo.

Juventus' next outing sees them make the trip to Fiorentina on Saturday for a league match beforea match with Inter Milan and the Champions League group stage finale against Young Boys.

Ronaldo and Messi have dominated the award for the last decade, claiming it five times each, but the expectation is that a new name will be read out as this year's victor. The diminutive attacker helped Barca to the La Liga & Copa del Ray double, whilst beating rivals Real Madrid in the Supercopa. Croatia's Luka Modric and a few French World Cup winners will be hoping to finally end the 10-year duopoly of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Could this be the year that the little wizard picks up an unprecedented sixth Ballon d'Or award? Who do you think will come away with the award on Monday evening?
