Neil deGrasse Tyson Accused of Sexual Misconduct, National Geographic and Fox Investigate

Acclaimed astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson after getting accused of sexual misconduct has come forth refuting the claims that were held against him on Saturday.

She told Patheos that she did not report the incident, which she says occurred at a social event after a 2009 meeting of the American Astronomical Society (AAS), because she didn't think the society had a mechanism for reporting sexual harassment. "After we had taken the picture, he noticed my tattoo and kind of grabbed me to look at it, and was really obsessed about whether I had Pluto on this tattoo or not... and then he looked for Pluto, and followed the tattoo into my dress".

In an official statement to Deadline, the producers of "Cosmos" said: "The credo at the heart of Cosmos is to follow the evidence wherever it leads. The producers of Cosmos can do no less in this situation", a statement from the show's producers to EW reads.

Both allegations came to light roughly a year after musician Tchiya Amet claimed that Tyson raped her when they were both graduate students.

The next night, however, in the auto, she says that Tyson told her that she was too "distracting" to work as a producer.

According to Patheos, Watson texted Amet that, "I feel like most people don't believe he's a predator because of his status as an educator" not long after Amet made her own claims.

Fox and National Geographic Networks have said they will conduct a thorough investigation. "When he saw that I had woken up, he got on top of me and mounted me, and I passed out again", Amet said of the alleged rape. He said the woman later told him that she was "creeped out" and viewed the invitation as an attempt to seduce her.

In his post, Tyson described multiple interactions with his female production assistant, including inviting her to his place for wine and cheese during the last week of production.

"I note that her final gesture to me was the offer of a hug, which I accepted as a parting friend", he said. "I am grateful for the support I've received from those who continue to respect and value me and my work", he wrote in a lengthy Facebook post titled "On Being Accused".

She recalled blacking out after Tyson gave her a drink and waking up naked on his bed.

The producers of Cosmos, a science-based TV series which Tyson hosted in 2014 and which Fox and National Geographic are set to reboot in 2019, noted that they were investigating the allegations.
