Coldplay release music under new name, 'Los Unidades'

The British rockers have rebranded themselves as a world music group called Los Unidades.

It's possible the band meant their new name to have various meanings- with Coldplay being the unit, band of brothers or soldiers who seek to foster unity around the world.

Since the first Global Citizen Festival in NY in 2012, Global Citizen has grown into one of the largest, most visible platforms for young people around the world calling on world leaders to honour their responsibilities in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and ending extreme poverty by 2030. Band fan account ColplayXtra investigated the announcement further and discovered a legal trademark agreement which lists the owners of Los Unidades as band members Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion.

Adding fuel to the fire, Coldplay have liked the original tweet from Parlophone.

At the bottom of the picture, there is text reading "Y02LPAC81ODL" - which eagle-eyed fans have been quick to point out is an anagram of "Coldplay 2018". It sounds like a remix of a Coldplay track.

Parlophone later released the first track by Lost Unidades - a collaboration with Pharrell titled "E-Lo" featuring Martin's distinctive vocals.

Take a listen via the animated lyric video below. In addition to the Los Unidades song, the EP also features contributions from Stormzy, David Guetta, Stargate, Cassper Nyovest, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage and more.

The new EP, "Global Citizens", features artists including Stormzy, Danny Ocean, and David Guetta. "May it be the first of many", Coldplay manager Dave Holmes said. Beyoncé, JAY Z, Ed Sheeran and Kacey Musgraves are also expected to perform at the event.
