Withings Pulse HR wants to challenge the Fitbit Charge 3

Nokia had acquired the company nearly two years ago, but the company recently bought itself back and reintroduced itself to the public thanks to a new logo, website and stylish new product in the form of the Steel HR Sport, a hybrid smartwatch and fitness tracker. However the Pulse HR packs in most of the features found on the more recent Steel HR Sport, including heart rate tracking and a variety of sports modes.

Although the Pulse HR comes with an OLED display, it doesn't have an always-on display feature.

The feature that stands out the most about Pulse HR is its PGP heart-rate sensor that will give detailed HRM information to users while they are in workout mode. This includes swimming as the band is rated at 5ATM.

"Pulse HR is an advanced activity tracker that enables you to effortlessly keep track of daily activity and training sessions".

The rectangular Pulse HR, which goes on sale December 5, looks more like a Fitbit than Withings' analog watch-like Steel lineup. It's now only available in black, although other color options - including the pink and grey options pictured above - will be available in January. The Withings Pulse HR fitness tracker is constructed using premium 316L stainless steel case and a reinforced polycarbonate surface coating to withstand wear and tear and everyday use.

The Pulse HR also has a 5ATM water resistance rating, the ability to track up to 30 different activities, automatic activity recognition, and 20-day battery life. Users select the chosen activity using the tracker display, and can customise which activities are available on the display through the Health Mate app.

Since the Withings Pulse HR is primarily a fitness tracker, it is created to automatically track 10 activties. The Pulse HR also promises a battery life similar to that of the Steel HR - around 20 days. It also functions as a sleep tracker, studying patterns and offering up analysis of your sleep behavior, like length and quality of sleep. The watch runs the latest version of Withings' proprietary software, OS2, which brings with it path mapping, enhanced multi-sport tracking, new sleep tracking features, and notifications for all apps - not just for calls, texts, emails and events.
