Three Final Fantasy XV DLC Packs Cancelled as Director Quits

Like we've mentioned, Square Enix and Tabata broke the news on a recent livestream, which Enix instated a while ago as a means to communicate with Final Fantasy XV fans. The video also announced Final Fantasy XV and Luminous Productions head Hajime Tabata's resignation from Square Enix. The DLC story episode starring antagonist Ardyn is still coming, as are more of the multiplayer Comrades and some FFXIV crossover gubbins, but the DLCs focused on Aranea, Lunafreya, and Noctis are in the bin. The rest of the DLC has been scrapped.

Development of future downloadable content for Final Fantasy XV has been canned following the revelation that project director Hajime Tabata has left Square Enix.

On the topic of why these DLC packs were canceled, global brand director Akio Ofuji says the team assigned to developing them have been moved on to another "AAA title". That is with the exception of Episode Ardyn, which will still release next year as a final send-off for the game. Existing DLC for Final Fantasy XV will see a price drop. However, Tabata indicated that "Episode Ardyn" is still in production.

"In regards to my next endeavors and near future, I have a project that I truly wish to solidify as my next challenge after "FFXV"," Tabata stated. There are plans to release a new anime short, and a collaboration with MMO Final Fantasy XIV will arrive on December 12th. "For that reason, I have chose to leave my current position and start my own business in order to achieve my goal".

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is available now worldwide for PlayStation 4, and Dissidia Final Fantasy is available in Japanese arcades. The new standalone version will include new bosses and other extras, like costumes and weapons, upon its release next month.
