Maybe it's better to get a Laptop that comes with the Pro Version already installed and a sticker on the bottom of the device that has a Win 10 Pro License from the get go and not some Home License that's been upgraded to a Pro license.

In order for users to download the Alexa app they will need to be running Windows 10 version 17134.0 or higher.

As you might imagine, given the way things have been going with Windows lately, there was an instant rip of outrage and criticism of the software giant for this latest gaffe. And Microsoft fixed the problem by the end of the day.

"Alexa on your PC even makes it easy to control your smart home from anywhere just by using your voice". (And some people said they did this.) Some users also said they followed the instructions they received in the erroneous messages and rolled back to Windows 10 Home.

Microsoft is aware of the problem, and advises users to ignore the message from Windows Activation and to wait for a fix. This issue does not appear to be isolated and is impacting a significant number of users.

It's not clear if the activation issue is somehow related to the October 2018 Update, only that the timing roughly coincides with its release and rollback. Jeff Jones, Senior Director at Microsoft, confirmed there was a problem by telling ZDNet that "We're working to restore product activations for the limited number of affected Windows 10 Pro customers".

The activation glitch is the latest in a string of issues affecting Microsoft's operating system, including file-deleting bugs which have seen the Windows 10 October 2018 Update pulled and its re-release delayed seemingly indefinitely - bad news for owners of Nvidia's shiny new GeForce RTX graphics cards, which rely on the DirectX Raytracing functionality included in the October 2018 Update to unlock the full functionality of their new GPUs.

If you are facing the issue, you can resolve it using the Activation troubleshooter, located in the Windows settings, under the Update and Security.
