LeBron James, Lakers win another nail-biter, hold off Derrick Rose, Timberwolves

Tyson Chandler feels he can free up LeBron James to do "special things" and relishes the opportunity to be a hero rather than a villain at Staples Center after joining the Lakers.

Chandler will provide needed frontcourt depth for the Lakers, who have relied on JaVale McGee and undersized forwards to guard big men during their 4-6 start to the season.

The Los Angeles Lakers were -22 over their past five games in the rebounding battle prior to Thursday's game against the Wolves.

Center Tyson Chandler has signed with the Los Angeles Lakers after clearing waivers on a contract buyout with the Phoenix Suns, general manager Rob Pelinka announced Monday.

Leading by a point late in the game, the Lakers missed three shots with less than a minute to play, two on 3-point attempts from James. Rather, he praised Jones for doing right by a veteran player and told ESPN he will have a spot in his front office for Jones if he ever owns an National Basketball Association franchise down the line. When you're homegrown from here and going to high school and all that and you've had these same fans, and now you represent the jersey that everybody has been cheering for their entire lives, you kind of become one.

The former Dallas Mavericks star made an impact by contributing nine rebounds in 23 minutes on the court and was delighted to open his Lakers account with a win.

"I've been on the other side and played the villain, " he added.

"It's been a insane 48 hours, but it was great", Chandler said after his Lakers debut Wednesday night, as quoted by Clutch Points.

"I love this city the way they love me", Chandler said to McMenamin.

Rose scored 31 points and Jimmy Butler added 24 for the Timberwolves, who dropped to 0-7 on the road this season with their fourth consecutive loss overall.

Hopefully the addition helps get Luke Walton off the hot seat, too.

The Lakers next face the Sacramento Kings on Saturday and then take on the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday.
