Democrat Gillum concedes in close Florida governor's race

U.S. residents are waking up to the midterm election results, in what is a big change for USA congress.

Gillum, who was trying to become the state's first black governor, told a crowd gathered on the campus of Florida A&M University, "I sincerely regret I couldn't bring it home for you".

Republicans Rick Scott and Ron DeSantis, running for U.S. Senate and Florida Governor, won the same 54 counties in Tuesday's election.

The Democrats have taken control of the House of Representatives, whilst Republicans have retained their grasp on the Senate.

"It was brutal. I don't know. Now we can all get back to work and get things done!" He also highlighted Florida's improved economy under his watch and depicted himself as a strong leader through devastating hurricanes.

Gillum was supposed to be the cure for the party's woes.

Republican Ron DeSantis will defeat Democrat Andrew Gillum in the battle to be Florida's next governor, Fox News projects.

In Florida, DeSantis was criticized for using coded racist language when he said Gillum would "monkey the state up" in an interview.

The race was the much-anticipated match-up of the ideological wings of each of the major political parties, with DeSantis representing the GOP base that backed Trump, Gillum representing the activist grassroots element of the Democratic Party. "There's enough of a losing streak now that there's no longer a question of whether there should be a change or a massive reevaluation, but why it hasn't already happened".

Some results of the US midterm elections have come in and quite a number of black people have won different seats. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., Tuesday in Orlando.

Nelson was leading Scott by similar margins.

Republicans, meanwhile, were eyeing a potential pickup in CT, traditionally a Democratic state, though Oregon Governor Kate Brown appeared set to prevail in what had been seen as a competitive race. Outside of Florida's urban centers, Republicans dominated.

If Gillum wins, he will be the first Democratic governor elected by Floridians in 20 years. "Plenty of Republicans came out and stuck with the ticket down the line". Turnout increased from 67 to 77 percent.

Gillum replied: "My grandmother used to say a hit dog will holler".

These races are interesting for different reasons. And on the eve of the election, Kemp opened an investigation into the Georgia Democratic Party for possibly tampering with the state's voter registration system. DeSantis won 54 percent of the vote among older Floridians making up three quarters of the electorate.

Overall, Democrats agreed Wednesday that one step toward ending their quarter-century in the proverbial desert lay in treating elections as a never-ending process. On the morning of the election, Real Clear Politics' average of the most recent polls put Gillum up by 3.6 points. Both campaigns promised to make health care more affordable and focused on increasing voter participation from the growing number of young people and minorities in the state that often don't participate in elections.
